Malachi 3: 8-11
Will a man rob God? Yet ye have robbed me. But ye say, wherein have we robbed thee? In tithes and offerings.
9 Ye are cursed with a curse: for ye have robbed me, even this whole nation.
10 Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the Lord of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it.
11 And I will rebuke the devourer for your sakes, and he shall not destroy the fruits of your ground; neither shall your vine cast her fruit before the time in the field, saith the lord of hosts.
From the above verse 11, I discovered that when a man pays his tithe, God targets his ground for a return of His blessing so that the ground can remain fertile and productive and it can continue to generate more blessing. Friends, YOUR GROUND IS GOD’S ULTIMATE TARGET WHEN YOU TITHE! This is because your ground determines your wealth! Just like in the case of the natural farmer, the fertility of his ground predicts his future!
In our case today, many have left the farm life for white collar jobs, and as a result we are tempted to believe that we have nothing to do with ground again. This is not absolutely true because, no matter the nature of your job or profession, we still have a ground. Our ground simply refers to the place where our income is coming from, the physical source of our income!
For example, a staff of Total Oil company has Total Oil Company as his ground; a staff of Mobil Oil Company has the Mobil Oil Company as his ground while a staff in a school has the school as his ground.
So, when you tithe as a believer, the blessing of your tithing goes to your ground. Where you lack a personal ground, it goes to the ground of the company where you are employed. This to me is the reason why many companies owned by unbeliever but with many believers as staffs are getting richer while the believers are just on the same spot. This to me is a high level of slavery. There is a particular big company in this country owned by a Muslim, but with over 70% of its staff being Christians. Little wonder the company is getting richer by the day!
BIBLICAL EXAMPLES
GENESIS 28: 20-22
And Jacob vowed a vow, saying, if God will be with me, and will keep me in this way that I go, and will give me bread to eat, and raiment to put on,
21 so that I come again to my father's house in peace; then shall the lord be my God:
22 and this stone, which I have set for a pillar, shall be God's house: and of all that thou shalt give me I will surely give THE TENTH UNTO THEE.
From the above scripture, I discovered that Jacob was a tither after the order of his father Abraham, but he was employed by his unbeliever uncle, Laban. The blessing of all Jacob’s tithing was only seen in the ‘company’ and never in the life of Jacob as could be seen in Genesis 30: 27-30,
And Laban said unto him, I pray thee, if I have found favor in thine eyes, tarry: for I have learned by experience that the Lord hath blessed me for thy sake.
28 And he said, appoint me thy wages, and I will give it.
29 And he said unto him, thou knowest how I have served thee, and how thy cattle was with me.
30 For it was little which thou hadst before I came, and it is now increased unto a multitude; and the lord hath blessed thee since my coming: and now when shall I provide for mine own house also?
It was little before a tither came but within a short time it multiplied but not in the life of the tither but in the company.
Joseph is also another example. I believe he also was a tither as Jacob his father must have taught him. He got a job also in Potipher’s house and within a short while, everything changed in that company as could be seen in Genesis 39: 5,
And it came to pass from the time that he had made him overseer in his house, and over all that he had, that the lord blessed the Egyptian's house for Joseph's sake; and the blessing of the lord was upon all that he had in the house, and in the field.
Friends, a tither will always provoke God’s blessing upon his or her ground! The question I have for you now is: DO YOU HAVE YOUR PERSONAL GROUND OR IS THE BENEFIT OF YOUR TITHING GOING BACK TO THE COMPANY WHERE YOU ARE EMPLOYED AND BEING PAID PEANUTS?
There is a story of a Muslim man who employed a believer as a staff and within a short time the company began to spread like wild fire. The man’s friend came and asked him to sack the believer and employ someone of his faith. He gave in to the advice and in no time the company started running losses. He consulted someone and was told that the believer he sacked was the grave mistake he made. He went in search of the believer only to discover that he has been employed by another company. After a year or so, the company folded up completely. Wake up friend, most of these companies are simply using our scriptural star of tithing to shine!
WHAT MUST I DO?
No matter how small, have a personal ground or business per time! Jacob in Genesis 30: 30 said, “For it was little which thou hadst before I came, and it is now increased unto a multitude; and the lord hath blessed thee since my coming: and now when shall I provide for mine own house also?
You must start thinking of your own house also otherwise you will grow old only to discover you have all through your life provided for another man’s house! Start your own personal business; this will serve as your ground where the benefit of your tithing can be going to. Stop being deceived that it takes money to start a business, all it takes is sense and whatever you have per time. No one becomes rich via salary in life. Stop the rat race because the winner of a rat race is still a rat! Use your head so that you can become the head in life. Remember, your head is the headquarters of your destiny, engage it and disengage poverty in your life! Personal business might be slow, but it is sure! Start operating a multiple source of income so as to come out of poverty. The Lord is on your side, you shall make it in Jesus name! Shalom!
